Planet Paintball 3-Man Tournament, 01/22/06 |
This was the first tournament that the team had played in as a
single team. All members came together and formed a
cohesive bond, as I knew they would! Originally, there was
supposed to be 4 divisions, 2 Rookie (-18 and +18) and 2
Novice(-18 and +18). Given the number of teams, they decided
that there would only be 1 Rookie and 1 Novice division.
We played
this tournament under the name Team X-Fire Black. Two
teams were entered, a -18 Rookie team and a +18 Novice team.
The Rookie team took 8th place, and the Novice team took 2nd
place!! A very respectable finish for a team that had
never played any tournaments together!

Planet Paintball 3-Man Tournament, 03/05/06 |
For this
tournament, all divisions, both Rookie and Novice, were merged
together into one singular division. This meant that even
the most inexperienced Rookies were going up against the most
experienced Novice teams. A challenge, to say the least!
Having now
switched to our current name of GSP Inferno, we entered 3 teams,
which were Inferno A, B, and C. All three teams performed
beyond any expectations I had! As a coach, I couldn't have
been more proud of all the players that day! Although all
players each played with everything they had, I do have to
recount the experience of Team GSP Inferno C!
Inferno C
consisted of Joe C., Matt S., and Brian. This was Brian's
first time playing in two months. He had several things
that prevented him from practicing with the team but having
watched him last year through the MPL, I knew what he was
capable of. To further complicate things, he was also bouncing
back from a shoulder separation. Matt had never played
tournament ball before - this was to be his first time.
This was also the time when his mom came down to watch the
tournament. Joe C. had just come on board the team, and
had only practiced with us only 1 time, and that was
during his try-out.
I put the
three of them together to see if they could gel as a team and I
was certainly not disappointed! They gave it everything
they had and placed fourth overall for the day! The entire
team was filled with pride as C walked up to receive their
trophy and cash prize!
